The Seattle Mariners are in the middle of the most successful playoff stretch in franchise history.
Entering their off-day Saturday, the Mariners led the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series. It's the first time since the M's first season in 1977 the team has been one win away from the World Series.
Seattle will have an opportunity to earn its first-ever berth to the World Series in Game 6 of the ALCS at 5:03 p.m. PT on Sunday at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
While the major league club is trying to reach heights it never has before, several minor league players are working to get closer to the level their big league contemporaries are currently at.
One of those prospects is infielder Felnin Celesten.
The 20-year-old infielder was considered one of the best international free agents in the 2023 class. He was the second-highest ranked international player in the 2023 signing period, according to MLB Pipeline, and was signed by the Mariners to a $4.7 million contract out of the Dominican Republic.
Celesten didn't play in Seattle's farm system in 2023 and was limited to just 32 games in 2024 due to a wrist injury.
Celesten bounced back and played 104 games in 2025. He scored 58 runs and hit 19 doubles, three triples and six home runs with 59 RBIs. He slashed .273/.345/.375 with a .720 OPS and stole 21 bases in 30 opportunities. He was promoted from the Single-A Modesto Nuts to the High-A Everett AquaSox on Aug. 18.
Celesten ended the year as the organization's No. 9 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. He was featured on both top 100 prospect lists by MLB Pipeline and Baseball America throughout the season, but fell out of both by the end of the season.
Celesten was the No. 1 draft pick for the Dominican Winter League (LIDOM) by Toros del Este, and has already made a strong impression through the first few games of the season.
Through three LIDOM games entering Sunday, Celesten has scored three runs and has hit two home runs with six RBIs. He's slashed .364/.364/.909 with a 1.273 OPS. He's struck out just once in 12 plate appearances.
Celesten arguably has the more physical potential than any other prospect in the Mariners' farm system, and he's wasted no time proving it in the LIDOM.
