Guillermo Heredia will stay in the KBO in 2026.

Congratulations are in order for former Seattle Mariners outfielder Guillermo Heredia, who is going to continue the fantastic career he's carved out for himself in Korea in 2026.

As noted by KBO insider Dan Kurtz, Heredia signed a $1.3 million deal to remain with the SSG Lancers.

About to turn 35 years old, Heredia has been in the KBO - with the Lancers - for the last three seasons.

    About his MLB career

Heredia spent parts of seven years in the big leagues with the Mariners, Tampa Bay Rays, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets and Atlanta Braves.

He spent three seasons with Seattle, appearing in 293 games from 2016-18. He hit .244 in that time with a .321 on-base percentage, his best production anywhere. He had 12 homers with the Mariners and featured a strong throwing arm.

Seattle traded him and Mike Zunino to the Rays after the 2018 campaign as part of their roster "re-imagining." They acquired Jake Fraley and Mallex Smith in that deal. Heredia hit just .225 for Tampa Bay before moving onto the Pirates and Mets. He ended up winning the World Series with the Braves in 2021 as they beat the Houston Astros.

    About his time in Korea

A native of Cuba, Heredia has been an impact player since signing with the Lancers. In three seasons, he's hit .342 with 46 home runs and 248 RBIs. He's also stolen 17 bases and roped 78 doubles.

He's not the only former Mariners player to excel overseas, as Robinson Cano has continued to play well in Mexico. Other guys like Mike Ford have also played in Japan.

    Other Mariners news and notes

--With just about six weeks remaining until spring training, the Mariners have additional work to do on their roster. They are still being linked to Ketel Marte and Brendan Donovan on the trade market, and they could still use another relief pitcher.

So far this offseason, they've brought back Josh Naylor and signed Andrew Knizner and Rob Refsnyder. They also traded for hard-throwing left-hander Jose Ferrer.

--Several Mariners players are confirmed for the World Baseball Classic, which begins in March. Randy Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez, Matt Brash, Naylor and Cal Raleigh will all play with Eduard Bazardo and Michael Arroyo expected to participate.

Japan won the last World Baseball Classic, beating the United States in the gold medal round.
