Robinson Cano, who spent five productive years with the Mariners, played his final game ever in the United States on Saturday night.

Former Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano was involved in a very emotional moment on Saturday night while playing for the Dominican League All-Stars.

For some context: The Dominican League All-Stars played the Puerto Rican League All-Stars in a showcase of the two winter leagues. The game was played at Citi Field in New York (home of the Mets), and marks the final game of Cano's career in the United States.

You can watch the video below of Cano being taken out of the game, with tears in his eyes.

    About Cano's career

Now 43 years old, Cano spent 17 years in the big leagues with the New York Yankees, Mariners, New York Mets, San Diego Padres and Atlanta Braves. One of the sweetest swingers in the sport for years, Cano was a lifetime .301 hitter with 335 home runs and 1,306 RBIs.

An eight-time All-Star, Cano was also a five-time Silver Slugger and a two-time Gold Glover. He won the 2009 World Series with the Yankees and was also the MVP of an All-Star Game.

    About his Mariners career

He signed a 10-year, $240 million deal with the Mariners before the 2014 season. It was the biggest deal in M's history, and he ended up fulfilling five years of it before being traded to the Mets prior to the 2019 campaign.

In those five years with Seattle, he hit .296 with 107 home runs and 411 RBIs, earning three All-Star appearances. Unfortunately, his time with the M's was marred by an 80-game steroid suspension in 2018. He was suspended for the season in 2021 with the Mets for a second violation. His connection to steroids is what will likely keep him out of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

The Mariners traded him and closer Edwin Diaz to the Mets for prospect Jarred Kelenic and others. No one from that deal is on the big-league roster.

    About his international career

Since last appearing in a big-league game, Cano has continued to play in the Dominican Winter League and in Mexico. He hit .372 in 86 Mexican League games in 2025, popping 14 home runs and driving in 87. He hit a whopping .431 with 14 home runs in 2024.

He's also represented the Dominican Republic at the World Baseball Classic.

I caught up with Cano this past January to talk about why he's wanted to continue playing into his 40s.
