The versatile chess piece stole his 95th career base for the Tacoma Rainiers on Thursday.
On Thursday afternoon, the Seattle Mariners snapped a six-game losing streak at the major league level by beating the New York Yankees 1-0 at Yankee Stadium.
Seattle lost two-of-three to New York in moving to 57-65 on the campaign. They are now five games back of the Houston Astros in the American League West with a big three-game set in Houston tap for this weekend.
If the Mariners are able to sweep the Astros, as they did last year, they'll position themselves well for a stretch run in the division. If they win two-of-three, they'll still be in the conversation, but a series loss feels like it would be devastating for this underperforming group.
After the Mariners won the day game against the Yankees, special things happened down on the minor league front as well, as Ryan Bliss became the all-time stolen base leader for the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers.
With 95 career steals in Tacoma, Bliss has passed Samad Taylor for the most in franchise history. Bliss said he knew he was at 94 for a few days now, so when he got on base in the first inning, he wanted to get the record out of the way.
About Ryan Bliss
Now 26 years old, Bliss was drafted in the second round of the 2021 draft out of Auburn by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The D-backs traded him to the Mariners in the 2023 trade that brought Dominic Canzone to Seattle while also sending reliever Paul Sewald to Arizona.
Bliss has played in 47 career games for the Mariners, hitting .208 with three home runs and 13 RBIs. He's appeared in three games this season.
He won the Opening Day second base job in 2025, but was injured for nearly the entire season, playing in just 11 contests.
There has been a groundswell of support for him to get another crack in the big leagues this year as the M's have dealt with poor offensive performances and injuries, but it hasn't happened beyond those three games.
Even when Colt Emerson was sent down to Triple-A on Thursday afternoon, Bliss was not summoned; Brock Rodden was.
Bliss is hitting .270 in total at Tacoma with four home runs, 38 RBIs and 23 stolen bases in 93 games. He has a .334 on-base percentage.
Back to the M's
The Mariners and Astros will play at 5:05 p.m. PT on Friday with George Kirby taking the mound against Peter Lambert.
