The Seattle Seahawks captured the NFC West title and the No. 1 seed in the looming NFC playoffs on Saturday night by beating the San Francisco 49ers 13-3 at Levis Stadium. The Seahawks finished the regular season at 14-3.
The final score doesn't reflect the level of domination from the Seahawks, who missed two field goals and squandered a scoring chance from the one-yard line in the first quarter. The defense was on another level, conjuring up discussions of the old "Legion of Boom."
The Seahawks have been the No. 1 seed in the playoffs three previous times (2005, 2013, 2014), and they advanced to the Super Bowl each time, winning in 2013.
And on a fun note, the Seahawks now share some unique history with the Seattle Mariners.
As we knew was possible, the two teams have now won their divisions in the same year for the first time ever. The Mariners went 90-72 this past season, capturing the American League West title and advancing to the American League Championship Series.
The Mariners have won four American League West championships: 1995, 1997, 2001 and 2025.
Seattle also made the playoffs in 2000 and 2022, but they were a wild card. They have advanced to the ALCS three times (2000, '01 and '25), but have never reached the World Series.
The Seahawks have now won 12 divisional titles across both the AFC and the NFC.
The won the AFC West in 1988 and 1999, then won the NFC West in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. They also won the NFC West in 2010, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2020 and again in 2025.
MORE MARINERS STORIES:
The Seahawks will have a first-round bye and homefield advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. The rest of the NFC playoff is the 49ers, the Los Angeles Rams, the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears and one of the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Mariners will continue to fill out their roster for the 2026 campaign, though it's unclear where exactly they'll turn to do that. They had been reportedly been interested in Kazuma Okamoto before he signed with the Toronto Blue Jays, and they are still (presumably) interested in trade target Brendan Donovan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Spring training begins just about six weeks from now in Peoria, Ariz. We will have live coverage from spring training so continue to follow us for information on that.
