A lot of the attention is on Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan, but there's something to be said for longevity.

When you talk about the Seattle Mariners and minor league pitchers, a lot of the attention deservedly goes to Ryan Sloan and Kade Anderson. Two of the top pitching prospects in baseball are both at Double-A Arkansas at the start of this season and both are knocking on the door of big-league promotions, possibly as early as this summer.

But while their talents are tantalizing, M's fans shouldn't ignore another pitcher in the minor leagues: 38-year-old Casey Lawrence.

The veteran right-hander is pitching at Triple-A Tacoma right now, and he put together a fantastic accomplishment on Saturday.

Per the Rainiers on social media:

With this strikeout, Casey Lawrence now has 1,216 minor league strikeouts in his career.

Since his professional debut in 2010, no pitcher has recorded more minor league strikeouts than Casey Lawrence. Congrats Casey!

While it might sound corny to some, there's something to be said for longevity and the drive to keep playing in the minors at the age of 38.

Lawrence has appeared in parts of five big league seasons, including 2017, 2018 and 2025 with the Mariners. He's also played for the Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals, going 5-6 with a 6.42 ERA over 65 career appearances. He's made two big league starts.

Lawrence is not currently on the 40-man roster for the M's, meaning a path back to the big leagues is tougher, but with the Mariners having no true out-of-options relievers in the majors, someone will need to be DFA'd in order make a move. Lawrence could get re-inserted to the 40-man roster at that point.

--The Mariners will look for their first series win of the season on Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Angels. The M's lost 1-0 on Saturday night as the offense remains a frustrating enigma through the first nine games. Seattle (4-5), was on the wrong side of some bad luck though, as Angels outfielder Jo Adell robbed three home runs in the victory. It was potentially the great defensive performance in baseball history.

--Speaking of Sloan, the 20-year-old made his debut at Arkansas on Sunday, giving up three earned runs over four innings. He struck out four. He allowed five hits and didn't walk anyone. He was second-round pick of the Mariners in the 2024 draft out of the Illinois high school ranks. He's ranked as the No. 22 prospect in baseball by Baseball America.
