One day after calling up top prospect Colt Emerson, the M's could be looking to call up another pitcher for his MLB debut.

One day after calling up top prospect Colt Emerson to the big leagues, the Seattle Mariners are reportedly bringing up left-handed pitcher Robinson Ortiz, who they acquired in an offseason trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Hector Gomez is making the report, though there has been no confirmation from the team at this time. With Monday's game not until 6:40 p.m. PT, a report might not come until closer to game time.

While Gomez's report is believable given Ortiz's success at Triple-A Tacoma, we will have to wait for an official announcement from the team, and all we can do is speculate about the corresponding move.

About Ortiz

A left-handed pitcher from the Dominican Republic, Ortiz is now 26 years old. With Tacoma, he's gone 0-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 15 games, all of which have come out of the bullpen. In 16 innings, he's struck out 18 hitters, though walks have been a bit of an issue: He has 12 walks in those 16 frames. Opponents are hitting .148 against him.

He began his career in the Dodgers organization and dealt with various health issues for years. He lost the entire 2020 season to the COVID-19 pandemic and made just four appearances in 2021. He didn't appear in a game until 2024 when he made six more. He made 48 in 2025, throwing 59.1 innings.

Who could go down?

Alex Hoppe threw 26 pitches on Sunday and could be down on Monday, while Domingo Gonzalez threw 25. Both of them would be logical candidates since they both figure to be unavailable on Monday.

Matt Brash threw another 0.2 innings of rehab at Tacoma on Sunday, though he struggled with two walks and a strikeout. He's expected to be activated ASAP, meaning that if Ortiz does come up, it might just be for a day until Brash is back.

Up next

The Mariners have lost three consecutive games and sit at 22-26 overall through 48 games. Fortunately, they are just 2.0 games back of the Athletics and still have room to improve. However, that's proven hard to do, especially with the injuries ravaging the roster.

Brendan Donovan and Cal Raleigh are both facing significant absences and Brash and Speier are missing from the bullpen.

The M's will play the Chicago White Sox at 6:40 p.m. PT on Monday as Bryan Woo pitches against rookie Noah Schultz.
