Right now, everyone is focused on the future of manager Dan Wilson and the front office, but the under the hood things for the M's are changing as well.
With six games left to go in the regular season, everyone is focused on the future of Seattle Mariners manager Dan Wilson, his coaching staff and front office personnel like Jerry Dipoto and Justin Hollander.
However, there are additional changes happening with the Mariners as well, specifically to the scouting department.
And though the scouting people are not known as well to the public as the manager or front office, they can be very vital to the success of the organization.
On Tuesday, Mariners regional scout Ty Holub announced that he is leaving for a promotion with his hometown Baltimore Orioles.
What was his impact on the Mariners?
Simply put, he's had a very big impact on signing several key Mariners over the last few years, including multiple players that were used in valuable trades.
As noted by Joe Doyle of OverSlot, Holub was the signing scout for George Kirby, Jonny Farmelo, Brody Hopkins, Ben Williamson and Luke Stevenson.
Kirby, one of the premier arm talents in the American League, was an All-Star in 2023 and helped the Mariners to the playoffs in both 2022 and 2025. He started Game 7 of the American League Championship Series in 2025.
Farmelo and Stevenson are both current members of the team's Top 10 prospect list, per MLB Pipeline.
Williamson was part of the trade that landed the M's Brendan Donovan before this season.
When you look at Polanco and Arozarena, they were part of the lifeblood of the 2025 ALCS team. Arozarena has been a back-to-back All-Star. Santana and Frazier were both parts of the 2022 playoff team.
Simply put, if you've enjoyed watching the Mariners matriculate prospects to the big leagues, and if you've enjoyed watching them using prospects to acquire major league talent, Holub has had a huge hand in that.
His impact will not be easy to replace.
Other recent Mariners losses
The Mariners lost Andy McKay to the Cleveland Guardians before the 2026 season, just as they lost Tony Arnerich to Cleveland. They also lost Carson Vitale to the Miami Marlins.
Stephen Vogt, who was the team's bullpen coach in 2023, is now the manager of the Guardians.
