The Seattle Mariners will have home advantage through the American League Divisional Series and earned a bye through the wild-card round of the playoffs by winning the American League West and locking up the No. 2 seed.
The Mariners will host either the Detroit Tigers or Cleveland Guardians in Game 1 of the ALDS at a to-be-determined time Oct. 4 at T-Mobile Park.
To keep fresh through the bye, Seattle will host two intersquad scrimmages Wednesday and Thursday, which will both be open to the public.
To help properly simulate game conditions, the Mariners will bring up a taxi squad to help the major league club stay fresh.
Eleven players will be on the taxi squad: pitchers Logan Evans, Michael Fulmer, Austin Kitchen, Casey Legumina, Collin Snider and Troy Taylor; infielders Colt Emerson and Ben Williamson, catcher Nick Raposo, outfielder Rhylan Thomas and utility player Samad Taylor.
Almost all the players included in the taxi squad have spent varying lengths of time with the big league club this season, but there are exceptions.
Fulmer, Emerson and Raposo are the only three players on taxi squad who didn't get a chance to make an appearance for Seattle in the majors this season.
Emerson's inclusion on the taxi squad is the most notable. The 20-year-old shortstop is almost universally considered the Mariners' best prospect (No. 11 MLB Pipeline top 100, No. 12 Baseball America top 100).
Emerson began the year with Seattle's High-A affiliate, the Everett AquaSox. He was promoted to the Double-A Arkansas Travelers on Aug. 4. He closed out the year with the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers on Sept. 16.
Throughout the entire season, Emerson scored 82 times in 130 games and hit 28 doubles, six triples and 16 home runs with 78 RBIs. He slashed .285/.383/.458 with an .841 OPS. While he was with Tacoma, he crossed home plate five times in six games and hit two doubles and two homers with nine RBIs and slashed .364/.444/.727 with a 1.171 OPS.
The Mariners will have until several hours before the start time of Game 1 of the ALDS to determine their postseason roster, and there will be several difficult decisions for the organization to make. On the same note, solid showings from members of the taxi squad could help increase their stock going into 2026.
