The Seattle Mariners lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Park in the regular season finale. It was a generally uninspiring effort from the Mariners, who had already wrapped up the American League West title and a first-round bye in the American League playoffs days earlier. In fact, Seattle was swept by the Dodgers in three games, finishing the year at 90-72 overall.
And though there are more playoff games to play, there are no more game broadcasts for the Mariners on ROOT Sports, which announced that it is ending its programming at the end of the calendar year. The Mariners broadcasts will be under control of Major League Baseball in 2026.
ROOT Sports, which went by different names previously, has been home to the Mariners for more than 40 years, and the ending of the final game broadcast was an emotional one, as field reporter Jen Mueller and postgame hosts Brad Adam and Angie Mentink each teared up in the postgame show.
According to a report from the Seattle Times, it's believed that Adam and Mentink will continue to be part of Mariners coverage in 2026, but Mueller announced that she is stepping away from Mariners TV. She will continue to work with the Seattle Seahawks and on various other side projects. She had been with the Mariners for 19 seasons.
After the final out was recorded, tributes to ROOT Sports, and the personalities that make it up, started coming in, including from the network itself.
After more than four decades of @Mariners television, today marks the final ROOT SPORTS Seattle Mariners broadcast. Endless gratitude to the crew, staff, fans, team partners, sponsors, and everyone who made this journey possible. We love you all.
Per @MarinerMuse:
Man. This is beautiful and sad.
Jen, Brad and Angie have all been a massive part of our lives every day throughout every season for basically two decades.
Wishing them all good things in the future.
And from @LookoutLanding:
They say don’t meet your heroes but every one of these humans is spectacular. Thanks Brad for your kindness, Jen for your leadership in this space, and Angie for the ball knowledge. And thanks to the LLers for chipping in to buy these folks a well-earned drink #WhereIRoot
The Mariners will begin play in the American League Division Series on Saturday, Oct. 4. The game time has not been announced yet. Seattle will play the winner of the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers.
