On Sunday afternoon, Seattle Mariners rookie Kade Anderson delivered the best start of his young career, tossing seven shutout innings against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field.

Anderson gave up only three hits, and he walked none, striking out seven.

With the win, he's now an even 2-2 with a 4.18 ERA. Sunday's start showed his full potential, as we discussed that on the most recent 'Refuse to Lose Territory' podcast.

"He did everything I've asked him to do, and he deserves credit and praise for that. He was efficient with his pitch count. Eighty-four pitches in seven innings. That's less than 15 per inning. Awesome.

He threw a ton of strikes. Sixty-one strikes, 23 balls. That is a three-to-one strike-to-ball ratio. Awesome.

He threw all of his pitches in this game. He threw 30 fastballs, he threw 16 curveballs, he threw 16 changeups, he threw 15 sliders, he threw seven sinkers. He was unpredictable. He mixed it up, kept guys on their toes. He threw all of his pitches for strikes. (Per Baseball Savant data).

He used his fastball. But he wasn't overly reliant on his fastball. Okay. Being unpredictable is a really good thing. He's got four pitches that he threw at least 15 times in this game, and he's got a fifth that he showed.

I also want you to look at the pitches themselves for Anderson on Sunday. What do you notice? 

For starters, there's less pitches generally in the middle of the zone, which is where Anderson has gotten hit so far in his young career. There's also significantly less fastballs in the middle of the zone (red).

The fastballs are well concentrated at the top of the zone, or above the zone, which is important. He's not making fastball mistakes in the middle of the zone with his below-average velocity. He can't afford to make fastball mistakes,. and he didn't, which was great to see.

People will say that the Rockies aren't very good, so the feat isn't that impressive, but it is:

The Rockies are 5th in batting average, 7th in runs scored and 5th in OPS. They can hit, especially in that ballpark. Anderson's outing was impressive.

Anderson would be slated to start on Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels, but it's unclear exactly how the M's will handle things this week.

They still have a 0.2 percent chance at the playoffs, so they'll play it all the way out until there's no more chances to be had, but if they do officially get eliminated, we could see some changes.

Will Anderson get that last start to build his innings count further? Or will the team want to have him go out on a high note heading into the offseason? It remains to be seen.
