The Mariners' Opening Day starter will take the mound at Comerica Park in Detroit on Tuesday.

DETROIT — The Seattle Mariners are set to face the Detroit Tigers in Games 3 and 4 of the American League Divisional Series on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, at Comerica Park in Detroit.

The two sides entered Tuesday tied 1-1 in the best-of-five series. Two wins for either club will clinch a berth to the American League Championship Series. If Seattle and Detroit split the pair at Comerica Park, the series will return to T-Mobile Park in Seattle for a deciding Game 5.

Logan Gilbert will get the nod for Game 3 of the ALDS at 1:08 p.m. PT/4:08 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

The decision to have Gilbert, the team's Opening Day starter, get the nod for the M's' first away game of the series was one that was surprising considering his splits at home vs. on the road.

Gilbert has been an effective starter this season. He's posted a 3.44 ERA with 173 strikeouts in 131 innings pitched across 25 starts. He was on the injured list from April 26-June 16 with a right flexor strain.

But there's a noticeable difference in his statistics when he's away from the Pacific Northwest.

On the road, the 2024 All-Star has a 4.74 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 12 starts. He allowed an opposing slash line of .261/.316/.451 in those outings.

At home, Gilbert posted a 2.24 ERA with 101 strikeouts in 13 starts and allowed an opposing slash line of .158/.213/.299. He walked just 14 batters at home compared to 31 away from Seattle.

Gilbert pitched against the Tigers twice this season. In those two outings, he had a 2.61 ERA and has fanned 19 batters in 10.1 innings pitched.

The better of his two turns was July 13 at Comerica Park. Gilbert struck out nine in 5.1 innings pitched, walked two and allowed two unearned runs on six hits. The Mariners won that game 8-4 and secured a series sweep against Detroit in the process.

Gilbert's first outing against the Tigers was April 1 at T-Mobile Park. He fanned 10, walked one and allowed three earned runs on five hits in five innings pitched. Seattle lost that contest 4-1.

Gilbert will take on Jack Flaherty in Game 3 of the ALDS.

Flaherty pitched once against the Mariners this season at Comerica Park — the same contest Gilbert was also on the hill for. Flaherty struck out seven, walked two and allowed two earned runs on four hits (two home runs) in five innings pitched.
