The New York Mets are trading minor league catcher Ben Rortvedt to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for right-hander Chayce McDermott.

The New York Mets have made another trade, this time involving a catcher, and have more deals to make with several hours to go before the trade deadline expires Monday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired Mets minor league catcher Ben Rortvedt, who was a member of the 2025 World Series team, in exchange for right-hander Chayce McDermott, who was designated for assignment on July 31, according to Aram Leighton.

McDermott made two relief appearances for Los Angeles this season and has a 7.71 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and one strikeout across 2.1 innings. He has a career ERA and WHIP of 12.00 and 2.27, respectively, in seven big league appearances (two starts, 15 innings).

Rortvedt has spent the season with Triple-A Syracuse and is slashing .235/.319/.414 (.733 OPS) with six home runs and 26 RBI in 48 games. He’s the latest domino to fall in New York’s fire sale despite not being on the Major League roster.

The first Met to go was lefty reliever A.J. Minter, who was sent to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for corner infield prospect Billy Amick and middle infield prospect Bruin Agbayani, who became the team’s 26th ranked prospect and is the son of former fan favorite Benny Agbayani.

Right-hander Freddy Peralta was the next pitcher to be traded, getting shipped off to the Tampa Bay Rays in a three-prospect package that consisted of outfielder Aidan Smith (Rays No. 15 prospect, now Mets No. 12), right-hander Gary Gill Hill (Rays No. 26 prospect, now Mets No. 17) and second baseman Émilien Pitre (Rays No. 27 prospect, now Mets No. 15).

Hours after Peralta was traded, righty reliever Huascar Brazobán was dealt to the Chicago White Sox late Sunday night. The Mets acquired two minor league right-handed pitchers, Gabe Davis (White Sox No. 18 prospect, now Mets No. 18) and Zach Franklin in the deal.

Lefty Brooks Raley was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies earlier this morning in exchange for outfield prospect John Spikerman (Phillies No. 27 prospect) and right-handed pitcher prospect Luke Gabrysh.

Four of New York’s top six pitcher trade chips have been moved, with reliever Luke Weaver and starter Clay Holmes still available. Holmes is probably the next to go, but Weaver is drawing a ton of interest as well and could be moved as well.

ESPN’s David Schoenfield named Holmes the most likely player to be traded before the deadline, saying his best fits are the Atlanta Braves, Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers, Houston Astros, White Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres.

Holmes has made several rehab starts in the minors and is nearing his return from a fractured fibula he suffered in mid-May. He is 4-4 with a 2.39 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 45 strikeouts to 18 walks through nine starts (52.2 innings).
