The New York Mets have plenty of pitchers that interest contending teams, including right-hander Freddy Peralta despite a down year.
The New York Mets have garnered a lot of attention as one of the few teams that are committed to a full fire sale, and it has already begun with a reliever trade Thursday night.
The Mets traded left-hander A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for prospect infielders Billy Amick and Bruin Agbayani. Minter performed extremely well upon returning from an injury that sidelined him for a while, posting a 2.35 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 23 appearances (23 innings).
Amick is known for having a ton of raw power while Agbayani is the son of a Mets fan favorite and is praised for his baseball IQ and instincts. New York is rebuilding the farm slowly but surely.
There are at least five other pitchers that are expected to be on the move or generate a ton of interest: starters Freddy Peralta and Clay Holmes, and relievers Brooks Raley, Huascar Brazoban and Luke Weaver.
Peralta seems like a lock to be moved given his contract status and performance as well as the demand for starting pitching despite his poor performance in a New York uniform. He is 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 113 strikeouts to 48 walks over 22 starts (113.2 innings).
Perhaps Peralta is missing playing for the Milwaukee Brewers, where he had immense success especially in 2025, when he finished fifth in the National League Cy Young race. The Brewers are having another great season but find themselves struggling with injuries to the starting rotation, opening the door for a reunion.
ESPN’s David Schoenfield made 10 trade deadline predictions with just four days remaining and he predicted that the Brewers will re-acquire the two-time All-Star.
“If there's a team willing to take a chance on Peralta, however, it should be Milwaukee, where he went 17-6 with a 2.70 ERA in 2025,” Schoenfield wrote Friday. “The Brewers could trade for Peralta and also add a reliever while still keeping all their top prospects.”
Peralta would be an inexpensive option for a team that rarely likes to roll the dice on expensive players, and Peralta is comfortable pitching in Milwaukee. Leaving a last-place team for a first-place team with large aspirations will flip a switch in any player, too.
According to insider Joel Sherman, Peralta was scratched from his start Friday with interest growing from contenders. There was noise that his last start was his final one in a Mets uniform, and that appears to be the case. Expect Peralta to be moved in the near future, perhaps back to Milwaukee.
