The Milwaukee Brewers' pitching rotation at Spring Training will look quite different as the team moves on from Freddy Peralta.

It was a bit of a stunner when the New York Mets announced that they were acquiring All-Star pitcher Freddy Peralta in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers. It alerted the National League landscape and showed the aggressiveness of one team to win now, while the Brewers leaned on a strategy of bolstering a strong farm system and rebuild through their youth. Fans didn’t expect that the last time they’d see Peralta in a Milwaukee uniform would be Game 2 of the NL Championship Series, but that defeat would be his final appearance as a Brewer.

In exchange, Milwaukee received a pair of Mets prospects in shortstop Jett Williams and righty Brandon Sproat, their Nos. 3 and 5 prospects, respectively. They’ll now turn the page to a starting rotation in Spring Training that won’t include Peralta for the first time in eight seasons since he began his MLB career. Manager Pat Murphy will now lean on veteran righty Brandon Woodruff to anchor the rotation, but Sammy Peralta, ironically, is another potential option to watch grow.

Here is the full story from Brewers Roundtable writer Tyrese Alleyne Davis on Milwaukee’s future without their ace.

It’ll be curious to see how pitching coach Chris Hook works with Peralta on his fastball and changeup, and he’ll also add in Sproat to his coaching work, who has developed rapidly through the minors already. But there’s no obvious Peralta on the roster, including the literal Peralta they have, which will take patience to see their long-term vision out.
