With Dylan Crews expected to be promoted, the Washington Nationals have made a surprising roster decision midway through the series against the New York Mets
The Washington Nationals are reportedly set to a make second roster move after more news materialized late Monday night.
Brady House is being optioned to Triple A Rochester, per multiple reports. Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic was first to report the news.
The news comes as a surprise given House has been off to a good start in 2026. Hitting .227 with a .282 OBP and .399 slugging after going 1-for-3 in Monday's loss, House has notched seven home runs and 25 RBIs while playing in all but four games in 2026.
It marks a notable development with a surprise that the Nationals are immediately turning to House instead of opting to wait for results on outfielder Jacob Young, who exited in the bottom of the second inning after taking a pitch to his ribcage and leaving the game. Though plans for House to move down to Triple A were in motion prior to the start of the four game series, but it does come off the heels of additional roster moves.
With House demoted, the Nationals have now made room for Dylan Crews, who is expected to be recalled from Triple A Rochester to make his MLB season debut.
Crews struggled mightily through spring training with president of baseball operations Paul Toboni and manager Blake Butera opting to spark confidence in the minors to open the 2026 regular season. In 12 games and 29 at bats, Crews slashed .103/.206/.103 with 11 strikeouts, four walks drawn, just three hits and two RBIs through spring training.
Yet Crews has found success in the minors where he heads to the majors hitting .258 with ten doubles, five home runs and 20 RBIs in 155 at bats and 41 games.
In May, Crews is hitting .291 with nine RBIs and seven doubles to go with a pair of home runs including two doubles in a 2-for-4 day on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Nationals will look to turn the page from a humiliating loss on Monday night after the New York Mets put together a ten-run 12th inning in a 16-7 loss, pushing Washington to two games under .500 after hitting the illustrious feat during the Beltway Series over the weekend.
