Infielder Seaver King was one of two Washington Nationals prospects who were recognized as impact pieces
The Washington Nationals benefit from the arrival of a revamped front office led by president of baseball operations Paul Toboni after placing an emphasis on upgrading talent in an already promising farm system. Yet after several prospects put together promising 2026 seasons, two were recognized above the rest.
That includes infielder Seaver King, who put together a monster year two after a concerning first full season in the minors. The former tenth overall pick in the 2024 Draft, King ended 2026 leading the Nationals' farm system in batting average (.316) and OPS (.942) in addition to ranking top five in OBP (.397), slugging (.545), hits (118) and total bases (204). King also ranked top ten in several other categories, yet how he did it may be most impressive after climbing from Double A to spending the bulk of year two in Triple A. In Rochester, King posted a .289 batting average with 16 home runs and 47 RBIs.
It marked an encouraging enough season where it's King who draws intrigue as a potential fit in 2027 to complete CJ Abrams' move to second base after Nasim Nunez filled in as the stopgap solution when the move did materialize in 2026. And for a team that has multiple efficient hitters in the lineup, King could add to that after hitting safely in all but three of his last 20 games.
Yet King was the first of two prospects mentioned after right handed pitcher Miguel Sime was tabbed as one to watch. His velocity has made him one of the most intriguing young arms coming through the organization as Toboni previously pointed to the minor league pitcher as one who has caught his eye during the regular season. Sime was also one of two Nationals who was tabbed to the All Star Futures Game, while the team also tabbed him as the Minor League Pitcher of the Year.
Sime, ranked the tenth best prospect by MLB Pipeline to end 2026, led the Nationals' farm system with 130 strikeouts and led all minor leaguers averaging 16.18 strikeouts per nine innings. 2026 marked his first professional season where he logged a 2.99 ERA and 130 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .153 batting average with just three home runs allowed across 72.1 innings. For a team that needs pitching help, Sime is one of several prospects within the organization who add optimism to the future with the expectation he makes his MLB debut in 2029.
