Athletics Catcher Shea Langeliers and reliever Mark Leiter Jr. will both undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday.
The Athletics rocky season took yet another turn as they were hit with season-ending blows to two key contributors, both looking to head to the operating table.
The team announced that All-Star catcher Shea Langeliers and right-hander Mark Leiter Jr. are both set to undergo surgery on Tuesday.
The injury report on Monday confirmed that both players are done for the 2026 campaign.
Langeliers had been exciting to watch in his breakout year, but knee surgery on a right torn meniscus will halt the career-defining year behind the plate.
Langeliers was batting .263 with 23 home runs and 51 RBIs in 93 games.
It led to him being named the first A’s catcher to start an All-Star Game since Terry Steinbach in 1989.
However, he had been floated in trade speculation rumors amid the team’s rocky season.

Then with Leiter, he was forced to shut it down due to a right hip impingement.
It marks his second stint on the injured list for this same issue this season.
Despite that, he’s been having a dominant run, with no runs allowed in 17 of his last 18 outings while carrying a 0.50 ERA in an impressive stretch.
He’ll finish this campaign 0-1 with a 4.28 ERA and four saves across 36 appearances.
It now leaves the Athletics in a bind as they must look to fill two significant voids for the remainder of the season.
The loss of both compounds what’s shaped up to already be a disappointing year for the club.
