The Dodgers acquired outfielder Alek Thomas from Arizona, adding a speedy center fielder in exchange for their prospect.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded for an Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder who will always hold a spot in franchise history on Tuesday days after he was designated for assignment by Arizona. The Dodgers acquired Alek Thomas in exchange for 17-year-old outfield prospect Jose Requena. While Thomas isn’t expected to crack the big league roster immediately, he provides valuable depth as a hitter and defender in center field.

Thomas is a lefty hitter who can help add a different look to the Dodgers’ outfield, as he’s known for his speed and reliability. There’s also flexibility in the deal as Los Angeles can still option him to the minors. The 26-year-old was struggling in his 2026 campaign for the D-Backs, slashing .181/.222/.340 with two homers in 100 plate appearances. Thomas has a career .230/.273/.361 slash line over five years in the league.

He’s known for his memorable stretch in the franchise’s 2023 World Series run where he hit four homers, including a two-run shot that tied the game up against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 4 of the NLCS. That October stretch highlighted the upside of the outfielder despite some inconsistency, and he’ll now head to LA to try to maximize his talent.

For Arizona’s they receive a young outfielder prospect in a low-risk swap that hopefully benefits both clubs as the D-Backs add a young piece in their pipeline while Los Angeles takes on a veteran, versatile outfielder at a low cost.
