Trevor Rogers dominated against the Cleveland Guardians during his most recent start.

The Baltimore Orioles finally got back into the win column on Monday, taking the first of three games at home against the Cleveland Guardians. Baltimore won 6-4, officially snapping their six-game skid and improving their record to 70-75. Given they are chasing the Guardians for the final spot in the American League wild card race, it was a necessary step in the right direction.

However, it is just the first step. Baltimore certainly has to win the series against Cleveland to have a fighting chance, and even a sweep would not make their path that much easier. The Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers are also competing for the final wild card spot, making every game from here on out important.

Monday's win would not have come without the efforts of left-hander Trevor Rogers. He delivered exactly the start the Orioles needed, tossing 7 1/3 innings, striking out six hitters, walking zero and allowing just one run. Baltimore was in full control all game despite Cleveland scoring three in the top of the ninth.

After the game, Rogers spoke with reporters and commented on Baltimore's chances of completing the turnaround and getting back into the postseason picture.

"It's 10 out of 10. The Red Sox are on a heater, and they beat us. Tip your cap to them. They are a really good team also, and we beat them today. Check the box on that, get ready for tomorrow and do the same thing," Rogers said when asked about his confidence in this group.

"I have the absolute faith and trust in this team. Control what we can control, play good baseball, and at the end of the year, let it be what it is. Give it our all, and see what happens," he added, via Jake Rill of MLB.com.

Rogers himself is eager to make the postseason and get redemption. His only October appearance came with the Miami Marlins in 2020 in the NLDS, where the 28-year-old pitched in relief and allowed four hits and three runs. He clearly wants another chance.

His future after this season remains uncertain. Rogers has enjoyed his time in Baltimore since being dealt there by the Marlins but the two sides have not discussed a contract extension, and he is set to hit unrestricted free agency.

His 2026 numbers across 27 starts, a 4.15 ERA with 138 strikeouts in 151 2/3 innings, have been up and down. That conversation is for November though. For now Rogers is focused on continuing to take the ball every five days and giving this team every chance to make a late push.
