Padres prospect Alex McCoy delivered two home runs for the Peoria Javelinas on Thursday, including a ninth inning walk-off, continuing his impressive Arizona Fall League performance.
The San Diego Padres have another reason to be encouraged by prospect Alex McCoy, who delivered his biggest Arizona Fall League performance yet Thursday.
McCoy hit two home runs for the Peoria Javelinas against the Surprise Saguaros, including a walk-off blast in the ninth inning.
The 24-year-old, ranked No. 26 in San Diego's system by MLB Pipeline, now has four home runs in the Fall League, putting him second among the league's hitters.
His first homer came in the sixth inning, when he launched a two-run shot that traveled 413 feet with an exit velocity of 106 mph.
But McCoy saved his biggest moment for the ninth.
After a leadoff walk, McCoy connected on another two-run homer, sending the ball 355 feet to end the game.
The second blast left his bat at 99.2 mph, according to Baseball America.
MLB also released video of both home runs, providing another look at McCoy's impressive power.
Following Thursday's performance, McCoy is batting .256 with a .348 on-base percentage and .641 slugging percentage in Arizona.
His latest showing builds on an already impressive Fall League campaign.
Earlier this month, McCoy was turning heads with his combination of power and speed, including a 112.2-mph single and several stolen bases.
He followed that performance with a 435-foot homer on Oct. 17 that registered a 118.2-mph exit velocity, the fourth-hardest-hit ball in Fall League Statcast history.
McCoy is among several Padres prospects gaining valuable experience in Arizona. Catcher Ty Harvey is also using the Fall League to make up for time lost to injuries.
McCoy's development follows a productive minor league season in which he batted .278 with 19 home runs, 71 RBIs and 24 stolen bases across High-A Fort Wayne and Double-A San Antonio.
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound prospect still needs to improve his contact consistency as he faces more advanced pitching.
However, his continued power production offers encouragement for an organization that needs to develop younger talent while preparing for the 2027 season.
The Arizona Fall League has given McCoy an opportunity to build on his progress at Double-A, where he hit .314 in 25 games after his August promotion.
Thursday's two-homer performance provided another reminder of McCoy's considerable offensive potential.
