Could the Philadelphia Phillies actually pull off a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers?
The Philadelphia Phillies are in search of outfield help, and they will certainly scouring all corners to try and find it.
While Randy Arozarena and Seiya Suzuki are obvious options in free agency, the Phillies may also have to explore the trade market to see what other potential answers are available.
That could even include asking the Los Angeles Dodgers for help.
Dayn Perry of CBS Sports recently published a piece ranking the top trade candidates in baseball heading into the offseason, and Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez made the list.
What's more, Perry tabbed Philadelphia as a potential landing spot.
The chances of the Phillies and Dodgers doing business are probably slim seeing as how they are National League rivals. It was Los Angeles that ousted Philadelphia from the Division Series in 2025.
But that doesn't mean the two teams can't find a match, and the Dodgers may be looking to dump Hernandez this winter in order to clear room for Josue De Paula.
Would Hernandez even solve the Phillies' outfield problems, though?
The 34-year-old slashed .267/.334/.425 with 16 home runs and 64 RBI over 491 plate appearances in 2026. He enjoyed a very strong September, but he was awful for a very large chunk of the campaign.
It seems pretty clear that Hernandez, who smashed 33 homers to go along with an .840 OPS in 2024, is declining, much like a good portion of Philadelphia's roster.
Hernandez is under contract for one more year and is earning $17.3 million in 2027. He also has a $15 million club option for 2028, so it's not like the Phillies would be taking on an albatross. But Hernandez couldn't be the sole answer.
Now, if Philadelphia signed someone like Arozarena or Suzuki and plucked Hernandez from Los Angeles? Then that's something, as you are adding two proven bats to a lineup in desperate need of more pop.
You also have to assume the Phillies would not have to part with either Gage Wood or Aidan Miller in a deal for Hernandez. In fact, given how barren Philadelphia's farm system is, Hernandez is one of the few trade targets who may actually be attainable for the Phils.
The question may come down to whether or not the Dodgers would actually entertain the idea of sending Hernandez — a well-known playoff hero in LA — to a fierce competitor.
I suppose the least the Phillies could do is ask.
