Alec Bohm of the Phillies will be heading toward free agency this year.
The 2026 season didn't go to plan for the Philadelphia Phillies, with the team being bounced out early in the postseason again.
Philadelphia was eliminated in the National League wild-card series by their NL East rivals in the Atlanta Braves, adding insult to the end of the year. The Phillies stumbled during September, seeing themselves drop down the standings, finishing the year as the final wild-card team in the NL.
So, as Philadelphia enters into the offseason, there are a lot of tough decisions and questions for the organization to answer. After another early playoff exit, the Phillies could elect to make some major moves to the roster, but how this shakes out remains to be seen.
One player that the Phillies have to figure out is infielder Alec Bohm, who will be heading to free agency this offseason. Bohm had a decent year for the Phillies, hitting .249 with 15 home runs and 88 RBIs, while posting an OPS of .698.
Many don't expect Bohm to be back with the Phillies next year, with the infielder needing a change of scenery. And if he gets it, Bohm could be a candidate to fully break out next season, according to MLB analyst Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report.
After a slow start to the season this year, Bohm hit .304 over the final 62 games, showing some signs of life. In the playoffs against the Braves, Bohm hit .333 with one home run over the three games.
The big issue with Bohm over the years has been his consistency, and it's hurt the Phillies at different times during the season. This could see Philadelphia allow him to walk, seeing what else is out there for him.
Bohm could help out a club who needs some extra pop in its lineup, and the Phillies may be looking to improve at third base. The veteran can play either first or third base, giving teams some needed flexibility in his free agency sweepstakes.
The Phillies need to make some changes in the worst way, especially along the edges of the roster next to the star players. Losing Bohm could hurt a little, but this team has continuously fallen short, and something has to be done to change the energy in the clubhouse.
Bohm could come back, with the Phillies looking at all possible options, but it seems that the two sides may go in a different direction.
