Phillies Urged to Trade For Jarren Duran This Offseason

The Philadelphia Phillies are entering into the offseason following another early playoff exit.

Philadelphia fell short in the National League wild-card series against the rival Atlanta Braves, losing in three games. The Phillies front office will now be tasked with figuring out how to move forward with this team and put the right pieces together on the roster.

This group does have a lot of talent, but they have continuously fallen short of the goal of winning a World Series. There is real pressure on this organization moving forward, especially with the core group getting older as each year passes.

MLB analyst Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report put together some predictions for the upcoming offseason. Among these, Rymer had the Phillies making a trade to land star Jarren Duran from the Boston Red Sox.

Duran has been subject to trade rumors for some time now, and after his down 2026 season, Boston could elect to move him. The outfielder did struggle this past season, but he could be the perfect bounce-back candidate for the Phillies to consider.

Overall, Duran hit .207 with 20 home runs, 67 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases, while posting an OPS of .627. These numbers are a far cry from where Duran was during his All-Star season in 2024, or even last year with Boston.

But the veteran could still make an impact for the Phillies if added, giving this team another left-handed bat for the lineup. Duran could benefit from a change of scenery, and the Phillies have the talent around him to help get him back on track.

If the Phillies were to trade for Duran, it would be a reunion between the All-Star and the Phillies' president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski. Dombrowski was with Boston when the team drafted Duran back in 2018, and he may still view him highly as a player, even with the issues this year.

Duran won't solve everything for the Phillies going forward, but he could take over in one of the outfield spots for this team. The outfielder will be looking to turn things around in 2027, and the Phillies could be one of the better places for him to make it happen.

Overall, a trade for Duran could help raise the ceiling of this Phillies team for next season, bringing in some new blood to the team. Philadelphia has to do something to add to the roster this year, and bringing in a former All-Star could help get them over the top.
