The Phillies link continue with the former All-Star.
The Philadelphia Phillies will be entering a crucial offseason this winter, with the team falling short in the playoffs again.
Philadelphia was knocked out in the National League wild-card series, seeing their season come to a close earlier than expected. The Phillies still have a lot of talent along the roster, but the front office needs to address some of the ongoing problems.
This offseason could see some change coming to Philadelphia within the roster, with the team needing to have some sort of spark. The Phillies have continuously tried to win with the same group of players, but they have fallen short each year.
One name that has continued to be associated with the Phillies as the offseason gets going is veteran outfielder Jarren Duran of the Boston Red Sox. Duran has been on the trade block since last offseason, and there are many around the league who believe Boston will move him this winter.
MLB analyst Dayn Perry of CBS Sports mentioned Duran as a candidate for the Phillies to trade for in a recent piece. Philadelphia was listed as a landing spot alongside the Chicago Cubs, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers.
But the fit of Duran with the Phillies is interesting, and it is something that has been discussed heavily around the team. With Philadelphia needing another outfielder this offseason, Duran could be an intriguing option to consider.
Duran is coming off a tough season with the Red Sox, with him hitting .207 with 20 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 21 stolen bases. The veteran also posted an OPS of .627, showing the struggles that he had in 2026.
But Duran could be a strong bounce-back candidate for the 2027 season, especially if he were to have a change of scenery. Duran has been an All-Star in his career, and there were many players around the league in 2026 who saw down seasons.
Putting Duran in a lineup with Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and others could see his numbers jump back up to his All-Star form. Duran wouldn't be required to carry the burden of the offense, allowing him to play much more freely.
Philadelphia does need an outfielder for the upcoming season, and Duran could be one of the better options from the trade front. While there is clear risk in trading for him, the Phillies need some sort of change, which Duran could bring to the clubhouse.
