The Phillies could look to make a splash this offseason.

The Philadelphia Phillies' 2026 season didn't go as planned, with the team being knocked out early in the playoffs again.

Philadelphia did overcome a slow start to the year, getting itself to the playoffs under the leadership of interim manager Don Mattingly. But a September slump almost saw the Phillies miss the playoffs, with the team getting in on the last day of the regular season as the final wild-card team.

Now, the Phillies are entering a massive offseason filled with all sorts of questions around the organization. Philadelphia has brought back Mattingly to be the full-time manager for next season, and the attention now turns over to the roster.

The Phillies, under president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, have never been shy about spending, and that likely won't change this offseason. Philadelphia may be looking to make some changes to the roster, even potentially big splash-type moves.

One name that could make sense for the Phillies is free agent outfielder Seiya Suzuki, who has spent the last few years with the Chicago Cubs. Suzuki is one of the better free-agent outfielders who will be available, and the Phillies do have a need to add someone like him.

Heading into the offseason, Suzuki has been given a projected contract from Spotrac of four years, $109.9 million. This seems like a good number for a player of Suzuki's caliber, and the Phillies could very well afford this.

With the Cubs this season, Suzuki hit .270 with 26 home runs and 86 RBIs, while posting an OPS of .841. Over the last two years, Suzuki has seen his power numbers increase, with the slugger going over 25 home runs in each season.

This could be just what the Phillies need, putting his bat into the lineup with the other stars that Philadelphia already has. Suzuki could offer this team more firepower for the next few seasons, and he would get to continue playing for a contending team.

Over his MLB career, Suzuki has done very well playing at Citizens Bank Park with the Cubs, leading to more thoughts of the Phillies signing him. Overall, the slugger has hit .305 with one home run, six RBIS, and 18 hits over 14 games.

The Phillies need some sort of new identity heading into the upcoming season, and Suzuki could offer them some new blood for the clubhouse. This could be one of the better additions for Philadelphia to make, and it's something that the front office should be considering.
