Phillies Named Landing Spot For Rangers Star Corey Seager

This would be quite the move for the Phillies to pull off.

The Philadelphia Phillies may be looking to make some big moves this offseason, changing up the roster for next year.

According to MLB analyst Dayn Perry of CBS Sports, the Phillies are a potential landing spot for Texas Rangers star infielder Corey Seager. Seager has been on the trade block over the last year, with Texas looking to massively shed payroll.

While trading for Seager could be a risk, his skill set can't be denied whatsoever. Seager remains one of the better shortstops in the game when healthy, and he could bring some extra pop to the Phillies' lineup.

Last season, Seager dealt with some injuries, which limited his time on the field to just 102 games for the Rangers. In that time, Seager hit .227 with 20 home runs and 51 RBIs, while posting an OPS of .736.

2026 was the worst season of Seager's career, but the injuries had a lot to do with his lackluster year. Seager could be a strong candidate to get back to being the MVP-like player that he was previously, especially if he were to be moved.

Putting Seager into a lineup that also features Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and others could see his numbers jump back up. Seager has plenty of experience playing alongside star players from his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

But the big question would be what the team does with Trea Turner if they were to make a move for Seager. Turner was a large talking point a year ago, with the veteran struggling for most of the season.

Both Seager and Turner have big contracts remaining, with Seager being owed $155 million through the 2031 season. Philadelphia's payroll is already an issue, but if the team could find a way to swap the contracts, it could work out well.

Seager is a much stronger defender than Turner, and this could solve some of the bigger issues that Philadelphia had a year ago. Landing Seager from Texas and flipping Turner somewhere else, while paying for part of his salary, would be a real win in the offseason for this team.

However, the Phillies may elect to make smaller moves around the edges, even if this could be the splash that helps them get over the hump. It remains to be seen how aggressive Philadelphia will be, but given the history of the team, nothing can be counted out.
