The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly showing interest in a trade for an American League outfielder.
The Philadelphia Phillies have been very active in the MLB rumor mill with the trade deadline coming up quickly on August 3. There are quite a few areas Dave Dombrowski and company could look to improve.
Adding pitching is one potential avenue the Phillies are expected to pursue. Another need is adding another bat, preferably an outfielder.
Keeping that in mind, a new report has shared one potential target Philadelphia is considering.
According to a report from MLB insider Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Phillies are interested in potentially trading with the Toronto Blue Jays for center fielder Daulton Varsho.
"Daulton Varsho is among players who interest the Phillies. Philly seeks an OF, pen and a starter," Heyman reported on X.
With the trade deadline just a few days away, the Blue Jays have become one of the top expected sellers. They have quite a few players who could end up being moved. Varsho is one of them, with other names like Shane Bieber, Kevin Gausman, and Jeff Hoffman also being potential trade candidates.
Varsho would be a solid addition for Philadelphia. He wouldn't bring star power to the team, but he's capable of playing a role on a championship caliber team.
Throughout the course of the 2026 MLB season thus far in Toronto, the 30-year-old outfielder has played in 96 games. He has hit seven home runs to go along with 26 RBI and a slash line of .247/.308/.383.
Granted, those numbers don't pop off of the charts. He isn't the one piece that comes in and turns the Phillies' season around. But, he's a piece that could help towards the ultimate goal.
Over the last few weeks, Philadelphia has been linked to quite a few potential trade targets. A few of those names are star outfielder Byron Buxton, San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray, and Gausman as well. It's clear that the Phillies want to be active at the deadline.
While Varsho may not be the top name on that list, he would be well worth acquiring. His price tag would be nothing close to that of a player like Buxton.
Bryce Harper spoke out recently with a very clear trade deadline message for the team. He wants to see Dombrowski do something to improve the team's World Series chances.
Only time will tell what Philadelphia chooses to do at the deadline. Dombrowski and the front office have some decisions to make. Varsho is a name worth keeping a close eye on as a possible addition for the Phillies.
