The Texas Rangers have an opportunity to cap off both their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks and their six-game homestand with a winning record.
With a win on Wednesday night, the Rangers will finish with a 2-1 series win over the D-backs and a 4-2 record on their six-game homestand.
First pitch is once again scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CST from Globe Life Field. Fans with a special theme night ticket will receive a Rangers SpongeBob SquarePants jersey as part of SpongeBob Night at the ballpark. Wednesday’s game is also one-dollar hot dog night at Globe Life Field.
Those not heading out to Globe Life Field can catch all of the action on Rangers Sports Network and on 105.3 The Fan on the radio side of things.
As for the players on the field, the Rangers' offense will look to carry its momentum over from their seven-run outburst on Tuesday night.
Texas recorded home season highs in both runs (seven) and hits (11), and recorded multiple home runs in a game at Globe Life Field for just the second time this season.
However, it is possible that the Rangers' offense will be shorthanded. Right fielder Brandon Nimmo left Tuesday night’s game with a sprained ankle after stepping on the foot of D-backs first baseman Ildemaro Vargas.
Nimmo, of course, lobbied with manager Skip Schumaker to stay in the game and did so for one extra batter, but was then removed.
After the game, Schumaker said all X-rays were negative, but it still could be a day-to-day situation depending on how Nimmo feels upon arriving at the ballpark today.
On the mound for the Rangers will be Kumar Rocker, who will look to bounce back from a rough outing in his last start.
Rocker will have big shoes to follow after MacKenzie Gore fired eight innings of one-run baseball in the Rangers' win on Tuesday night.
Entering play on Wednesday, Rocker features a 1-4 record with a 5.01 ERA. Wednesday’s matchup will be another unfamiliar one for Rocker as he has yet to face any of the D-backs hitters in his big-league career.
Rangers hitters will be facing Ariziona right hander Ryne Nelson, who enters play with a 1-3 record and a 5.68 ERA on the season.
Corey Seager has faced Nelson five times and is hitting .600 against him with a home run and four RBIs. The Rangers will hope a matchup against someone he has fared well against in the past will be enough to get their struggling superstar going.
