While the Texas Rangers are looking to get off on the right foot under manager Skip Schumaker this season, they also might be looking to upgrade in a few spots.
One of those spots might be a third base, where Jake Burger. who played third base in the past, has not been there for Texas. He's been camped out over at first base.
Yet is Burger available on the trade market?
A recent article from Bleacher Report on a number of MLB players who appear to be available at some level indicates that Burger is "definitely available."
Here's how Bleacher Report currently views Burger: "Burger didn't play any third base last year, but he used to. He also used to be a consistent source of an OPS of at least .760, but his first season with Texas was a rough one at the dish.
"And at this point, he is blocking Abimelec Ortiz's path to regular playing time as a rookie," according to the article. "He's also another couple million dollars the Rangers could trim from the payroll."
In the 2025 MLB season, Burger hit .236 with 16 home runs and 53 RBIs. Burger posted an OPS of .687, too. Burger started his career with the Chicago White Sox, before getting traded to the Miami Marlins in 2023.
Last season was Burger's first one playing for the Rangers. Obviously, Texas hoped for a more productive season out of him in 2025. He has a chance to right his ship at the plate this coming season.
The Rangers, as a whole, want to have massive improvement across the board, too. It's a tough task Schumaker is taking on with an organization that is desperately trying to become relevant again in the American League West Division.
Of course, Texas wants to get back into the World Series conversation. After all, it was just two seasons ago that the Rangers hoisted the Commissioner's Trophy in the air when all was said and done.
Burger, though, might find himself with another ballclub in need of an infielder. There's no indication at this point that Burger is being moved away from first base. As the article indicated, Burger has played third base before in his career.
Would another team want Burger to go back to third if it picks them up? That is something worth watching as the 2026 MLB season rolls out pretty soon.
Burger might be enough trade bait for Texas to actually ship him out.
