The Texas Rangers addressed some needs in acquiring relief pitcher Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O'Hoppe from the Los Angeles Angels,
As the Texas Rangers continue their push toward an American League playoff spot, the front office looked toward the Los Angeles Angels for some help.
The Angels, on Wednesday night, traded right-handed reliever Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O'Hoppe to the Rangers.
Texas has been needing another arm in the bullpen, along with a guy to help in the catching work. Silseth and O'Hoppe meet those qualifications.
ESPN MLB Insider Jeff Passan posted details about the trade on X.
"Trade news: The Texas Rangers are acquiring right-handed reliever Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O’Hoppe from the Los Angeles Angels, sources tell ESPN," Passan wrote.
The Rangers do have their eyes set on the postseason. Making a move like this will prove to be a big push in the bullpen and at catcher. Can Silseth and O'Hoppe perform at the level of a playoff-seeking ballclub?
The deal does help Rangers manager Skip Schumaker when he has been scratching his head around who he could call in from the bullpen. Additionally. O'Hoppe already has MLB experience and knows how to call a good game.
O'Hoppe currently has a slash line of .209/.271/.566 with four home runs and 23 RBIs for the Angels. He was a Round No. 23 selection in the 2018 MLB Draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. O'Hoppe has played his entire MLB career with the Angels. Now, he's going to call Arlington, Texas, and Globe Life Field as his new home.
O'Hoppe (pronounced 'oh-HOP-ee') has made 68 starts at catcher for the Angels this season. He is batting .209 with four home runs, eight doubles, and 23 RBIs. O'Hoppe has 52 successful ABS challenges this season, too.
He has the fourth-most successful challenges among AL catchers. O'Hoppe has a .273 (18-for-66) batting average against left-handed pitcher this year, which is third-best among AL catchers (minimum 50 ABs).
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News posted on X that O'Hoppe would play for the Triple-A Round Rock Express for the time being.
This season, Silseth has appeared in the most games in his MLB career that has been with the Angels all along.
Silseth, 26, has gone 3-2 with a 2.72 ERA (12 ER/39.2 IP) over 47 relief appearances with the Angels this season. He posted a 1.412 WHIP and 10.9 SO/9. Silseth has permitted just three home runs all year and over his last 7 appearances since July 9, Silseth has not allowed an earned run (1 R-0 ER) over 6.2 innings pitched.
The Rangers sent minor-league infielder Angel Arredondo to the Angels in this transaction.
It appears that Texas didn't give up a haul at all to pick up Silseth and O'Hoppe. If they can plug a couple of needs with these two now-former Angels, the Rangers are going to be in pretty good shape heading into the final months of the 2026 MLB season.
In corresponding moves, according to the Texas Rangers PR account on X, catcher Danny Jansen was transferred from the 10-day Injured List to the 60-day IL. Also, right-handed pitcher Jose Corniell was transferred from the 15-day IL to the 60-day IL.T
