Washington, whose tenure with the Los Angeles Angels as their manager is now over, might be sending out some feelers to Rangers organization.
While new Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker is getting his staff in place for the upcoming 2025 MLB season, there's a familiar name in MLB (and Rangers) circles possibly looking to return.
According to a report, former Rangers manager Ron Washington is apparently sending some feelers out to the Rangers organization. Washington is no longer manager of the Los Angeles Angels after his tenure ended after last season.
Washington missed a lot of time in the 2025 MLB season after undergoing bypass heart surgery. In fact, Washington wanted to return to manage the Angels but the club said no.
But Washington served as Rangers manager between 2007-14. Washington got the ballclub into back-to-back World Series appearances, albeit not being able to bring the organization The Commissioner's Trophy. That, though, eventually happened under former manager Bruce Bochy, who was not retained after last season and is now in a senior adviser's role with the San Francisco Giants.
Then, Washington went on to serve as a third-base coach for the Athletics and Atlanta Braves organizations.
The report, which comes from the Rangers Nation account on X, states that the timing is rather interesting when it comes to a possible return by Washington to the ballclub.
"The timing is notable, as Texas currently has a vacancy at third base coach following Tony Beasley’s announcement that he will not return in 2026," the report, which originated with DLLS Rangers, noted.
It would not be a bad idea to have Washington on Schumaker's staff. He's been around MLB for a long time, whether as a player, manager, or coach. Washington is known to work well with infielders, getting them reps on their fielding play.
There has been no official word regarding Washington's status at this time with the Rangers or any other MLB club. That might become clearer after the MLB General Managers meetings or even the MLB Winter Meetings, which will take place in early December.
Joc Pederson picks up 2026 option
Meanwhile, in other Rangers news, Joc Pederson is exercising his $18.5 million player option for the 2026 season.
In 96 games in the 2025 MLB season for the Rangers, Pederson had a slash line of .181/.285/.328 with nine home runs and 26 RBIs.
Pederson signed a two-year, $37 million dollar contract with the Rangers in December 2024.
