Nathan Eovaldi was spectacular against New York Yankees, holding them to three hits in eight innings as Texas Rangers roll.
Watching Nathan Eovaldi pitch a masterpiece on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium against the New York Yankees had to make Texas Rangers fans smile.
Eovaldi went eight innings, only giving up three hits, as the Rangers picked up a 6-1 win.
In getting the victory, Eovaldi evens out his season record to 4-4. Besides giving up just three hits, he allowed only one earned run, walked one, and struck out eight Yankees hitters.
As for the Rangers' offense, Corey Seager had a much-needed 2-for-5 night at the plate with a homer. Jake Burger went 2-for-4. Texas pounded Yankees starter Will Warren, who took the loss and is now 4-1 this season.
With two outs in the top of the first, Seager smoked his seventh home run this season over the right-field wall to put Texas up 1-0 early.
Then, in the top of the third inning, Ezequiel Duran, who is on a heater right now, smashed a double to left. Brandon Nimmo scored and the Rangers went up 2-0. Later in the third, Evan Carter connected for a two-run home run and Texas extended its lead to 4-0.
That was Carter's fourth home run this season, another bright spot in the Rangers' offense on Wednesday night. Texas added two more runs in the fourth inning and led the Yankees 6-0 at that point.
Aaron Judge slammed his 15th home run this season for the Yankees in the bottom of the sixth inning, the only run that New York scored all night long.
Duran went 1-for-3 and is now hitting .303 on the season with an OPS of .833.
The Rangers are now 17-19 on the season, sitting in third place in the American League West Division. As for the Yankees, despite the loss, they are 25-12 and in first place in the American League East Division.
Texas could have scored a lot more runs against Yankees pitching, but their numbers with runners in scoring position weren't good. The Rangers were 2-for-10 in that category and finished with leaving seven runners on base.
Rangers manager Skip Schumaker was probably pleased to see his team get the W against a tough team like the Yankees. But Schumaker probably hopes that his Rangers will do a better job of getting runners home when they are in position to do so.
As for the Yankees, thanks to Eovaldi's splendid effort, they didn't have many runners on base all game long. New York finished 0-for-1 with runners in scoring position and had just three runners left on base.
The Rangers and Yankees are going to have a Thursday morning Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex time from Yankee Stadium. First pitch will be at 11:35 a.m. CT.
When the Rangers finish playing, they'll board a plane and head home to Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. They open a three-game weekend series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday night.
