Wyatt Langford delivered the biggest hit of the night as the Texas Rangers rallied past the Athletics 5-3.
The Texas Rangers finally found their way back into the win column Saturday night, overcoming an early deficit to defeat the Athletics 5-3 and snap a four-game losing streak.
Texas trailed for much of the night before its offense gradually chipped away at the deficit. The victory marked the Rangers' 22nd comeback win of the season and provided a much-needed response after a difficult stretch.
Wyatt Langford delivered the defining moment in the sixth inning.
After Texas had already pulled even, Langford stepped in and sent a pitch deep to left-center field for a two-run homer. The 421-foot blast gave the Rangers their first lead of the night and put the offense in position to finish off the comeback.
The rally began in the fifth inning when Nicky Lopez drove in Texas' first run with a single to center field. Corey Seager followed with an RBI single in the sixth, bringing the Rangers level before Langford's homer put them ahead.
Jarred Kelenic later added insurance in the ninth inning, driving in another run as a pinch-hitter to give Texas some additional breathing room.
The Rangers needed that offensive production after Athletics rookie Henry Bolte gave his team an early advantage. Bolte launched a three-run homer in the second inning, initially ruled foul before replay showed the ball had clipped the outside of the foul pole.
Texas' pitching staff settled in after that early damage.
MacKenzie Gore worked 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out five Athletics hitters. Although he allowed the early home run, Gore kept Texas within striking distance long enough for the offense to turn the game around.
The Rangers' bullpen then took over and delivered when it mattered most. Three relievers combined for 3.1 hitless innings, preventing the Athletics from mounting another rally after Texas grabbed the lead.
Jacob Latz handled the final two innings, preserving the victory and recording his 24th save of the season.
The win was particularly important for Texas after dropping four straight games. Rather than allowing another loss to extend the skid, the Rangers showed some resilience by overcoming an early three-run hole and producing enough offense late to secure the victory.
Texas will now have an opportunity to take the series in Sunday's finale. Cody Bradford is scheduled to start for the Rangers as they look to build on Saturday's comeback and carry some momentum into the final game against the Athletics.
