Outfielder-first baseman Mark Canha gets minor-league deal with Texas Rangers. He's also invited to major-league camp.

Mark Canha has played for a few major-league teams in his career. Now, he's getting a chance with the Texas Rangers.

On Sunday morning, the Rangers announced that they had signed the outfielder-first baseman to a minor-league contract. Canha also gets an invitation to the major-league Spring Training camp, too.

The Rangers' PR account on X shared information about Canha's signing and MLB background.

"The Rangers today announced that the club has signed OF/1B Mark Canha (#33) to a minor league contract that includes an invitation to Major League Spring Training camp," according to the post on X.

Other details about Canha's career also were shared, too. He's played in 1,095 career MLB games in 11 seasons. Canha has been with the Athletics (when they were in Oakland, Calif.), New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Detroit Tigers, and San Francisco Giants. Last season, Canha played for the Kansas City Royals.

He's hit 121 career home runs and collected 465 RBIs in his MLB career, too. Additional information about Canha indicates that between 2019-23, he put together a 13.1 bWAR and had a .370 on-base percentage. Being able to consistently get on base plays a big role in helping a team get in position to score runs during games.

Canha's ability to make this happen on a consistent basis might be a feather in his cap when Rangers manager Skip Schumaker and president of baseball operations Chris Young observe Canha in camp.

Last season wasn't a good overall experience for Canha. The Royals released him in August 2025 after two periods of time on the Injured List. He only hit .212 in 46 games last season, so he needs to pick that up with the Rangers.

According to the Rangers' PR department, the ballclub has 66 players in camp, which includes a 40-man MLB roster and 26 non-roster invitees.

Can Canha earn a spot on the main roster? He's going to have to really show out in Arizona. Canha needs to come into camp and be ready to go from the outset. The Rangers probably wouldn't have taken a flier on Canha if they didn't think there was something to see.

Canha joins a big crowd trying to get the Rangers' attention. Let's see if he can earn a spot on the 40-man roster, or get sent down to Triple-A for more playing time.
