Seager, Langford off Injured List, back with Texas Rangers; Freeman, Osuna optioned to Triple-A Round Rock; Haggerty gets designated for assignment.
Hours before the Texas Rangers open a three-game series at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, against the Cleveland Guardians, the ballclub made a few roster moves.
Among them are outfielder Wyatt Langford and shortstop Cody Freeman being activated off 10-day Injured List stints. Additional moves needed to be made as Freeman and Langford returned.
In a corresponding move, infielder/outfielder Cody Freeman and outfielder Alejandro Osuna were optioned to the Triple-A franchise in the Rangers' organization, the Round Rock Express.
Finally, the ballclub designated infielder/outfielder Sam Haggerty for assignment. Haggerty went from being on the Bereavement List to losing his spot with the Rangers.
Let's take a look at how these players have been performing this season. Seager appeared in two games with the Double-A Frisco Roughriders. He's played 42 games for the Rangers this season, hitting .179 with seven home runs, six doubles, and 20 RBIs.
Langford has missed Texas' last 39 games as he's been out since April. He played in four games between Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round Rock. In 20 games this season for the Rangers, Langford is hitting .238 with one home run and four RBIs.
Since being recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, Freeman appeared in one game for the Rangers. In 20 games this season with Texas, Freeman hit .273 with two home runs, two doubles, and 11 RBIs.
Osuna, who appeared in 37 games for Texas this season, hit .253 with two doubles and nine RBIs. He played in 31 games in left field for Rangers manager Skip Schumaker this season.
Haggerty struggled all season long, hitting just .159 with one home run, three doubles, and eight RBIs in 17 games with Texas. While Haggerty has struggled, going from the Bereavement List to designated for assignment is no fun at all.
In one final move listed by the Rangers' media office, pitcher Josh Sborz has been signed to a minor-league contract and sent him to Triple-A Round Rock.
With all of these changes being made at this time, Texas is going to look for more footing in its race to lead the American League West Division. The Rangers have gone 6-4 in their last 10 games and are tied for second place in the division with the Athletics as they both have 30-32 records.
The Seattle Mariners are 2.5 games ahead of the Rangers and Athletics heading into weekend MLB play.
Now, the Rangers have their work cut out for them. They need to keep on piling up series victories over the next month or so and get in position to really challenge the Mariners.
If any team can do it, then it's the Rangers as long as they stay healthy most of the time. Rangers fans sure hope that's the case.
