MacKenzie Gore has shaky outing for Texas Rangers as New York Yankees win series with 9-2 final score.

The Texas Rangers hoped to leave Yankee Stadium with a series win over the New York Yankees.

Well, that didn't happen on Thursday afternoon in the Bronx.

Rangers starter MacKenzie Gore worked 5 1/3 innings and looked pretty good early on. That all changed, though, as the Yankees scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. That proved to be the difference as New York won 9-2.

Gore, whose record now falls to 2-3 this season, gave up six hits, five earned runs, walked three, and struck out three. Gore's ERA bumped up to 5.18 after the defeat. Five Rangers relievers followed Gore to the mound and they collectively gave up three earned runs.

The Yankees used Thursday's game as a bullpen game with manager Aaron Boone going through six different pitchers. Reliever Brent Headrick, the fourth pitcher used by Boone on the day, got the win and is now 3-0 this season.

New York jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Cody Bellinger's RBI triple. That came on the heels of Paul Goldschmidt connecting for a triple off of Gore as well.

Then, in the top of the third inning, Ezequiel Duran slammed his second homer this season over the left-field wall to tie things up at 1-1. In the top of the fifth, with runners and first and third base with nobody out, Duran's RBI groundout brought Alejandro Osuna home and Texas was up 2-1.

Well, the Yankees brought out the bats in the bottom of the sixth as Gore became unhinged in his pitches. With the bases loaded and one out, Trent Grisham hit a bases-clearing double and New York motored ahead 4-2. J.C. Escarra singled to left, bringing home Grisham and the Yankees went up 5-2.

New York added two more runs in the home half of the sixth for a 7-2 advantage. The Yankees posted single runs in the seventh and eighth innings to wrap up the scoring on Thursday afternoon.

Texas falls three games below .500 at 17-20, putting the Rangers in third place in the American League West Division. The division has not been too productive across the board this season, so the Rangers have a chance to improve their standing. But they need to put together some wins here soon.

As for the Yankees, well, they started "spreading the news" after securing this win. They go to 26-12 for the season and sit in first place in the American League East Division.

The Rangers boarded a flight back to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex after the game. On Friday night, they'll open a three-game series at Globe Life Field against the Chicago Cubs. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. CT. They'll play another night game on Saturday, then wrap up this series with an afternoon matchup.
