What a way for the Texas Rangers to finish off their homestand at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Sunday.

Behind Ezequiel Duran's two-run, first-inning triple, Josh Jung's two-RBI effort, and a collective effort from Rangers pitching, Texas defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-3 to earn a weekend series sweep.

Jack Leiter worked 5.2 innings on Sunday, striking out 10 Royals in his effort. Leiter gave up three hits, didn't give up a run, and walked two. With the win, his record this season goes to 3-4 with a 4.34 ERA.

Four Rangers relievers followed Leiter and gave up the Royals' three runs. Jacob Latz gave up one hit and struck out one in earning his seventh save.

Texas is now three games under .500 at 28-31, sitting in third place in the American League West Division. As for the Royals, who are just not having a great season so far, they are 22-37 and in fourth place in the American League Central Division.

Let's break down how the Rangers scored their six runs on Sunday.

In the first inning, with Jung and Jake Burger on base, Duran tripled to left field. Jung and Burger scored to put Texas up 2-0. Alejandro Osuna singled to right field, bringing home Duran and the Rangers bumped up its lead to 3-0.

Kyle Higashioka doubled to center field, allowing Osuna to cross home plate and Texas ended up leading 4-0 after the first inning.

Jung came up with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth. His single to left field brought home Higashioka and Nicky Lopez, pushing the Rangers' lead up to 6-0. And on this Sunday, that was all Texas needed en route to beating the Royals.

Kansas City got on the board in the top of the seventh inning on Lane Thomas' RBI single. Michael Massey hit his fourth home run this season, a two-run blast that moved the Royals closer at 6-3.

But, there was no rally for the Royals as they lost at Globe Life Field.

Michael Wacha took the loss for Kansas City, falling to 4-3 this season. Wacha worked five innings, giving up eight hits, six earned runs, walked four, and struck out five. Three Royals relievers gave their team a chance to get back into the ballgame. 

The Rangers were 3-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left eight runners on base. As for Kansas City, they did have scoring opportunities but couldn't push its run total up. The Royals were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 10 runners on base.

Texas heads out for a three-game road trip as the Rangers will go up against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Then, Texas returns to Globe Life Field for a weekend series against the Cleveland Guardians.
