Texas Rangers infielder Josh Smith lands on 10-day Injured List.
On Tuesday, ahead of opening a three-game series against the New York Yankees, the Texas Rangers placed infielder Josh Smith on the 10-day Injured List.
Smith is dealing with a right glute strain. Now, he'll get time to work on recovery from his injury and get back into the lineup when returning.
As Smith went on the Injured List, infielder Justin Foscue was recalled from the Triple-A Round Rock Express.
The Texas Rangers' PR account on X shared the transaction news on Tuesday afternoon.
Smith has gotten off to a really slow start in the 2026 MLB season. In 96 at-bats, Smith is hitting .217 with no home runs, six RBIs, and two stolen bases. He has a .324 OBP and a .563 OPS.
He's in his fifth season with the Rangers. On the record, Smith's best season with Texas was back in 2024, when he hit .258 with 13 home runs and 62 RBIs. But, in the past season-plus, Smith's numbers have decreased.
While Smith's overall numbers this season aren't that good, in looking at his last seven games, there have been signs of improvement.
In those seven games, Smith has gone 7-for-20 with four walks and four strikeouts. Should Smith be able to return to the Rangers' lineup in good health, then it'll be interesting to see if he can keep going.
Foscue has previous MLB experience as he played for the Rangers in some games last season. He was optioned down to Round Rock in March 2026, but is now going to be playing some games with Texas at this point.
In 51 major-league at-bats, Foscue is 3-for-51 with no home runs and three RBIs. Foscue has a .059 batting average. Now, he'll look to improve on those numbers during his new stint with the Rangers.
The Rangers and Yankees open their three-game series on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. They'll play on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, then wrap things up with a Thursday afternoon contest.
Finally, Texas will get back home to Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Friday night and open a three-game weekend series against the Chicago Cubs.
