Texas Rangers left-hander Dalton Pence delivered one of the Minor Leagues' strongest pitching performances in 2026.
The Texas Rangers have another promising pitching prospect progressing through their farm system, as left-hander Dalton Pence earned recognition from MLB Pipeline following an impressive 2026 campaign.
Pence, ranked No. 10 among Rangers prospects, established himself as one of the Minor Leagues' most effective pitchers while advancing through three levels during the season. He finished with a 2.51 ERA across 118.1 innings, placing third among Minor League pitchers in that category.
His performance stood out for its consistency and ability to limit opposing offenses. Pence held hitters to a .206 batting average while recording 122 strikeouts, demonstrating his ability to prevent hits and finish plate appearances.
The left-hander's success also extended to Triple-A, the highest level of the minor leagues. In nine appearances there, he recorded a 2.09 ERA, providing an encouraging indication of how he handled the challenge of facing more advanced competition.
Strong results throughout the season
One of the most notable aspects of Pence's performance was his ability to maintain strong results while moving between levels. Advancing through the minor leagues requires pitchers to adjust to increasingly experienced hitters, making consistency an important part of the development process.
Pence handled those transitions effectively, finishing among the Minors' ERA leaders while accumulating a substantial workload. Holding opponents to a .206 average further illustrated his effectiveness.
His results at Triple-A were especially noteworthy. Although nine appearances represent a relatively small sample, his 2.09 ERA at that level offered a positive sign as he continues working toward the major leagues.
A prospect to watch in Texas' farm system
Pence's 2026 performance strengthens his position among the Rangers' pitching prospects. His No. 10 ranking reflects his standing within the organization's farm system, while his statistical production provides a foundation for further development.
For Texas, young pitchers who demonstrate the ability to handle multiple levels can become valuable organizational assets. Continued progress could give Pence opportunities to move closer to the major leagues and establish himself as a potential option for the club's pitching staff.
However, translating minor league success into major league production remains a challenge. Pence will need to continue refining his approach, adjusting to advanced hitters and sustaining his results as the competition becomes more demanding.
His performance this season nevertheless provides plenty of encouragement. A 2.51 ERA, 122 strikeouts and a strong showing at Triple-A make his campaign one worth monitoring as he enters the next phase of his development.
If Pence builds on those results, he could continue strengthening his case as one of the Rangers' most intriguing young pitching options.
