Two-time Cy Young Award winner put together stellar season as Rangers got deGrom back healthy for 2025 MLB season.

Jacob deGrom went through Tommy John surgery and probably wasn't too sure if he had what it took to regain his Cy Young Award-level of dominance on the mound.

Well, deGrom had one whale of a 2025 MLB season for the Texas Rangers. His efforts even were recognized by the Baseball Writers' Association of America, who awarded him the American League Comeback Player of the Year Award.

The announcement was made on Thursday at the MLB Awards ceremony.

Some people, though, believed that Toronto Blue Jays star George Springer should have gotten the nod. Springer had a great season, too, and hit .309 with 32 home runs.

But the BBWAA voters thought deGrom's numbers merited the honor.

And what numbers they were for him. He finished with a 12-8 record, a 2.97 ERA and posted a Rangers franchise-record 0.92 WHIP. That was all done in 172 2/3 innings of work for Texas.

Pretty good numbers, eh?

DeGrom underwent Tommy John surgery in 2023. He didn't return to the mound until September 2024. But in 2025, despite the Rangers not making it into the MLB postseason party, deGrom was a solid starter in a Rangers rotation that needed his efforts.

Look for Rangers manager Skip Schumaker to expect deGrom back out there on the mound next season and, hopefully, he can match or even better his 2025 numbers.

The Comeback Player of the Year Award is presented annually to one player in each league "who has re-emerged on the field during the season." The winners are determined via a vote by the 30 MLB.com club beat reporters.
