Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager made an immediate impact in his first rehab game with Double-A Frisco.

The Texas Rangers received encouraging news Tuesday as shortstop Corey Seager opened his latest rehab assignment with an impressive all-around performance for Double-A Frisco.

Returning from his third Injured List stint of the season due to lower back inflammation, Seager looked comfortable on both sides of the ball. The veteran infielder finished 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run while playing five innings at shortstop, signaling that his return to the major-league club could be approaching.

The outing marked another milestone in Seager's recovery after injuries have significantly limited his availability throughout the 2026 campaign.

Offensive and defensive progress

After striking out in his first plate appearance, Seager settled in during the remainder of the game. He worked a walk before delivering the highlight of his night in the fifth inning, driving an opposite-field solo homer to cap off his first rehab appearance.

His defensive work was equally encouraging. During the third inning, Seager displayed his range by moving deep into the hole to field a ground ball before making a strong throw across the diamond to complete the play. The sequence provided another indication that his back is responding well as he increases his workload.

The Rangers have been without one of their most productive offensive players for much of the season. Through 51 major-league games, Seager has hit .182 with 10 home runs and 25 RBIs.

Despite those numbers, he has continued to be one of baseball's most productive offensive shortstops during his tenure in Texas, making his eventual return a significant boost for the club.

Return could be around the corner

Texas is expected to keep Seager with Double-A Frisco for at least one more game before determining whether he is ready to be activated from the Injured List.

The organization is placing an emphasis on allowing Seager to accumulate defensive repetitions in game situations while ensuring his back continues to respond positively. Those live-game opportunities are designed to help him regain timing both at the plate and in the field before returning to the Rangers' lineup.

Seager previously completed a brief rehab assignment earlier this season before being activated, and the Rangers are taking a similar approach as they monitor his progress.

Another veteran continues rehab

Reliever Chris Martin also continued his recovery on Tuesday.

Pitching for Triple-A Round Rock, the right-hander threw a scoreless inning in his fourth rehab appearance as he works his way back from a right shoulder impingement.

Martin's progress gives the Rangers another potential reinforcement for their pitching staff as they await the return of multiple veterans from the Injured List.
