Despite slow start from Wyatt Langford, it's early in the season and the Texas Rangers land in middle of MLB rankings.
Sure, Texas Rangers fans want to see the team perform much better this season than they did in the past couple of them. Wyatt Langford hasn't gotten off to a hot start yet, but it's still just a few games into the 2026 MLB season.
Is it time for Rangers fans to hit the panic button? Heck no.
In recent MLB Power Rankings posted by The Athletic, the Rangers are tied at the No. 13 spot with the Kansas City Royals. Texas has made some adjustments to get better this season, hoping that there can be signs of life at the plate.
Yet, as was pointed out by The Athletic's Levi Weaver, the Rangers have been a pitching-first franchise recently.
"I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Texas has been a pitching-first — or frankly, a pitching-only — team for a few years now," Weaver wrote. "They made a lot of changes this offseason to try to fix that problem, but one player they have expected to be a load-bearing column for the future is Langford. One bad series doesn’t change that.
"While we wait, though, it has been fun to see Andrew McCutchen get off to a hot start," Weaver added. "He’s got a 1.444 OPS through his first three games."
That's a great point to make about McCutchen, who has a lot of major-league experience and is looking to prove that he's worthy of another chance. The Rangers probably are feeling pretty good about getting McCutchen ahead of this season.
Texas goes into its Sunday afternoon series finale against the Cincinnati Reds at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, with a 4-4 record. The Rangers were shut out on Saturday night, losing 2-0 to Cincinnati.
The Rangers are now 4-4 overall. With Rangers manager Skip Schumaker watching Texas take the field in his first season in the dugout, he's probably feeling somewhat good about things early.
So, where do the Rangers sit currently in the American League West Division? They enter Sunday's game 1.5 games behind the first-place Houston Astros. The Los Angeles Angels, Seattle Mariners, and Athletics are all behind Texas right now.
Speaking of Seattle, after the Reds leave town, Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, and the Mariners come into Globe Life Field for a three-game series. It's interesting to note that the Rangers and Mariners will face each other in two series over the next week and a half.
Once the Mariners-Rangers series ends, Texas heads out to the West Coast for a 10-game road trip. Starting on Friday, Texas opens a three-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.
Then, the Rangers will head to Sacramento, Calif., for a four-game series against the Athletics. Texas and the Mariners follow that for another three-game series, but this time it'll be at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.
