Two American League powerhouses go head-to-head as the Texas Rangers go on the road to play three against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Texas Rangers picked up a big win over the Seattle Mariners on Monday to give them a two-game cushion in the American League West.
Sitting at 54-52, the Rangers were rewarded with a trip to St. Petersburg to take on the AL East-leading Tampa Bay Rays.
Seeing as the Rays have a two-and-a-half-game lead over the New York Yankees, it shows just how hot Tampa Bay has been this season.
All of the probable pitchers have been revealed for this three-game slate, the second of four consecutive series for the Rangers without a day off.
Tuesday, July 28
Cal Quantrill (3-3, 4.05 ERA) vs. Griffin Jax (6-7, 3.89 ERA)
A pair of right-handed pitchers will collide in the series opener as Cal Quantrill goes head-to-head with Griffin Jax. Quantrill, 31, hasn't gone deeper than four innings in either of his last two outings. In fact, he's 0-3 in his last four appearances.
As for Jax, the fellow 31-year-old has recorded a decision in eight straight starts. He's 5-3 in that span and hasn't gone fewer than five innings in an outing since Monday, June 1, when he started the year 1-4 thanks to a six-run, four-inning outing.
Wednesday, July 29
MacKenzie Gore (6-8, 4.82 ERA) vs. Ian Seymour (6-3, 4.64 ERA)
After a pair of righties open the series, both MacKenzie Gore and Ian Seymour are left-handed starters who will be taking the mound in game two. Coincidentally, similar to game one, both of the pitchers in this game are the same age (27).
Gore just allowed three runs in a five-inning effort, but he's allowed six or more hits in four of his last five starts. As for Seymour, the Connecticut native has dropped two of his last three after picking up three straight wins from June 25 to July 7.
Thursday, July 30
Nathan Eovaldi (10-8, 4.05 ERA) vs. Shane McClanahan (9-6, 3.09 ERA)
It'll be Nathan Eovaldi's right-handed arm against the lefty Shane McClanahan in Thursday afternoon's finale. Eovaldi, 36, just delivered a seven-inning gem to help the Rangers take down the Mariners.
On the other hand, McClanahan has proven to be one of the Rays' most consistent arms. The 29-year-old is coming off a win, and it's worth noting he's 3-1 in his last four starts. Other than allowing five runs in that loss, he's allowed just one run in the other three combined.
