The Texas Rangers didn’t wait until Monday’s MLB Trade Deadline to get started on their shopping.

Late Wednesday night, following the team’s 3-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, Texas made a rare move with a division rival.

The Rangers acquired right-handed pitcher Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O'Hoppe from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for 19-year-old infield prospect Angel Arredondo.

Upon the trade’s agreement, Texas has sent O’Hoppe to Triple-A Round Rock, where he will begin his tenure in the organization. Silseth, on the other hand, will report to the Rangers' active roster and slot into the bullpen.

In necessary corresponding roster moves, catcher Danny Jansen and right-handed pitcher Jose Corniell have been transferred to the 60-day Injured List.

Adding Silseth gives Texas a much-needed reinforcement out of the bullpen. In 47 appearances this season, the 26-year-old right-hander has gone 3-2 with a 2.72 ERA, a 1.412 WHIP, and 10.9 strikeouts per 9 innings.

Over his last seven appearances since July 9, Silseth has not allowed an earned run (1 R-0 ER) over 6.2 innings. He has produced a whiff percentage of 32.7%, ranking in MLB's 93rd percentile according to Baseball Savant.

Before this season, Silseth has pitched in just 35 games across four big-league seasons and still has yet to get consistent looks in leverage, primarily pitching in middle relief for the Angels.

With that being said, Silseth may pitch in the same role for the Rangers, who could still look to add a bullpen arm with leverage experience to pair with Jakob Junis and Jacob Latz.

As for O'Hoppe, despite being the Angels' primary catcher for the better part of the last five years, he will slide to Triple-A with Texas after hitting just .209 with four home runs and 23 RBIs this season.

The Rangers were lacking in terms of organizational catching depth after both Jansen and Higashioka have needed the IL, and Austin Wynns was pulled from Round Rock to the majors, where he has been a solid backup to Elias Diaz in limited action

Undoubtedly, it seems that we will see O'Hoppe in the big leagues with Texas at some point as he is under team control for the next three seasons and is making just $2.625 million this year.

Silseth is also under team control for the next three seasons and is making just $800,000 in 2026.

It’s not hard to see why the Rangers only giving up Arredondo to get a pair of big-league-caliber and controllable players is a move they wanted to make.

Although considered by many to be underrated, Arredondo does not rank in the Rangers' top 30 prospects.

Certainly, this will seemingly not be the only move Texas makes at this year’s MLB Trade Deadline, but there’s no denying it comes as a good start and a sign they’re going for it.
