Maybe it's time for the Texas Rangers to get busy and offer Wyatt Langford an extension before he thinks about going elsewhere.
Langford has proven to be one of the Rangers' top players on the team. He's proven himself to be worthy of staying with the team for a long time to come.
Besides that, maybe the Rangers should also consider looking at a right-handed bench option. Those two things were pointed out in an article from Zachary D. Rymer for Bleacher Report. Rymer put together a collection of "wish lists" for all MLB clubs.
Here's what Rymer said about the Rangers and their "wish list" elements.
"The Rangers scored a major win on Thursday when they suddenly acquired MacKenzie Gore from the Washington Nationals," Rymer wrote. "With Jon Heyman of the New York Post having tied Texas to Miguel Andujar, it would seem that a right-handed hitter is next in line.
"An extension for Langford is an idea the Rangers need to start taking seriously," Rymer wrote. "He was one of few bright spots on the 2025 roster, and he's surely the future of the team with Corey Seager creeping deeper into his 30s."
As Rymer pointed out, getting Gore from the Nationals was a big-time get for Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young. Gore has been lights out for the Nationals and now will be counted on to do the same at Globe Life Field this season.
Langford, who plays left field for the Rangers, hit .241 last season with 22 home runs and 62 RBIs. Langford had a slash line in 2025 of .344/.431/.775. He just has two seasons of major-league experience, but has proven to be a worthy player on the roster.
The Rangers would be wise to get that extension sent to Langford ASAP.
Of course, Seager has been an important part of the Rangers' success. The past couple of seasons overall weren't what the organization wanted to see. That's a reason the ballclub decided to move along from Bruce Bochy as manager.
It's obvious that Texas wanted a new attitude, a new mindset, in the dugout. New Rangers manager Skip Schumaker spent last season as a senior adviser to Young. There's little doubt the two men discussed what they saw on the field at times.
Additionally, there was some scuttlebutt that the players weren't always on the same wavelength when it came to success on the field.
It's going to be Schumaker's job to make sure that doesn't happen at all. Getting an additional bat on the bench, plus locking up Langford for a period of time, will be a good step in the right direction.
The Rangers hope to take a lot of steps in the right direction all season long.
