Texas Rangers Prospect Draws Attention cover image

As Texas Rangers prospect Cameron Cauley takes part in Spring Training, Skip Schumaker likes him.

While Spring Training is a time for major-league players to get in shape for the upcoming MLB season, it's also where prospects can make a name for themselves. This is true for Texas Rangers prospect Cameron Cauley.

In fact, Cauley is getting attention from Rangers manager Skip Schumaker.

Cauley is an infielder who has been putting his name in the hopper for future call-ups by the big-league team.

Recently, MLB.com put together an exhaustive list of prospects who are getting noticed by their clubs and organizations.

When it comes to Cauley, Rangers MLB.com beat reporter Kennedi Landry offered some intel on what Cauley has been doing in Cactus League play.

"Cauley is making such an impact that new manager Skip Schumaker basically begged the club’s media contingent to ask about him," Landry wrote.

"The Rangers’ 2021 third-rounder has become a cult legend in the Cactus League over the last two springs," Landry continued. "So far this year, he has gone 8-for-22 with a home run and a 1.073 OPS.

"He’s one of the team leaders in plate appearances and has played all over the infield as he’s shown off his speed and versatility with the big-league club," Landry wrote. "He hasn’t touched Triple-A just yet, but it’s easy to see how he contributes in the big leagues in 2026."

Cauley has advanced throughout the Rangers' minor-league system and played at the Double-A level in 2025. He put together a slash line of .253/.448/.773 with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs in 113 games.

He's performed consistently from his days in rookie ball all the way up to last season. Cauley might even move up to Triple-A ball this season, but that remains to be seen.

Still, Cauley getting attention from Schumaker, who's entering his first season as Rangers manager, puts his name on the list for some future time in the big leagues.

Rangers fans might want to write down Cauley's name and watch how he performs once the minor-league season kicks off.

Cauley, who plays at shortstop, was invited to the Rangers' big-league camp back in January. So far, his efforts are getting much better. The fact that Schumaker is calling attention to him just is another feather in his cap.

So, let's see what Cauley does this season. Maybe he gets called up to the Rangers should they have some injury problems during the 2026 MLB season.
