The Texas Rangers had three position player prospects take the field in the Surprise Saguaros' 9-2 win over the Solar Sox on Wednesday in the Fall League.
On Wednesday, the Arizona Fall League rolled on, and the Texas Rangers were at the forefront of the action with three position players taking the field for the Surprise Saguaros.
Sebastian Walcott, Paxton Kling, and Julian Brock were all in action as Surprise took down the Solar Sox 9-2.
With the win, the Saguaros improved to 9-5 on the season and moved into a tie with the Scottsdale Scorpions for first place in the Fall League.
Surprise will be back in action on Thursday when they take on the Peoria Javelinas in an afternoon showdown.
As for Wednesday’s game, the Rangers prospects in action had a big impact on the Saguaros win.
Walcott in action
Walcott got the start, hitting third in the lineup and playing shortstop, which is always significant after he wasn’t able to play the field for much of his limited minor league season due to elbow surgery recovery.
On Wednesday, Walcott went 0-for-4 but did manage to draw a walk and steal a base to avoid coming home empty-handed.
In his first at-bat, Walcott grounded out to third before striking out looking in a nine-pitch at-bat during his second trip to the plate. In the fifth, he would work a five-pitch walk, including getting a call overturned with an ABS challenge. Just pitches later, he would swipe second base. In his last two at-bats, he would strike out and ground out to first.
Another strong showing for Kling
Once again, it was a solid day at the yard for Paxton Kling, who, despite not getting into the hit column, was able to work a pair of walks and come around to score a run.
After flying out to right in his first at-bat, Kling worked a seven-pitch walk and went on to swipe second base and eventually come around to score on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Kling would fly out to right again, and in the seventh, he would strike out. In his final at-bat of the day in the ninth, he would work his second walk of the game.
Brock steals the show
Texas catching prospect Julian Brock once again got a start behind the plate and wound up as one of the offensive stars of the day for Surprise, going 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Brock would fly out to center in his first at-bat and strike out in his second before coming up in the seventh and lacing a single. In the eighth, he walked on five pitches and did the same in the ninth to bring home the final Saguaros run and put a bow on the win.
