When the Texas Rangers find their way into the batter's box this season, they better aim to improve their efforts.
Last season was, to be honest, a real stinker for Texas at the plate. Among the many areas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker will seek to help his players step it up, that team batting average has to got be better.
Rangers reporter Kennedi Landry of MLB.com recently sat down with Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young to discuss what areas will be getting more attention in the 2026 MLB season.
Landry pointed out a number of key statistics when talking about the 2025 MLB season and what Texas did offensively.
"While the Rangers seem content with their position player core, the question remains: How will the offense improve from one of MLB’s worst units in 2025?" Landry wrote. "In 2025, the Rangers ranked 25th in wRC+ (92), 26th in slugging (.381), 26th in batting average (.234), 26th in on-base percentage (.302), 22nd in runs (684) and 23rd in walk rate (8%)."
Young wants to see Rangers players go up to the plate with a better mindset than what he witnessed last season.
"I think it's just an overall commitment to the mentality that we think is going to be successful as an offense," Young said. "Commitment to the type of approach we want as a team. Just guys going up and having quality at-bats one after the next.
"We think (new Rangers hitting coach) Justin Viele is going to do a tremendous job with these guys," Young continued. "The buy-in is there. We've got a hungry bunch of players.
"Every single one of them is working their tails off right now in preparation of coming into camp and bouncing back and so we as an organization have a lot to prove, and these players are motivated," Young continued.
The past two seasons under former Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, after winning the World Series in 2023, were not good record-wise. Texas finished 78-84 in 2023 and 81-81 in 2024, but it plays in a very competitive American League West Division with the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros.
Can Corey Seager help become a catalyst for the Rangers' offense?
The ballclub will need to take an "all-hands-on-deck" mentality entering this season, especially at the plate.
