The Texas Rangers had to lean on their offense and bullpen to win the Toronto Blue Jays series Sunday.
The Texas Rangers staged their biggest rally of the season, beating the Toronto Blue Jays 11-7 at Globe Life Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Rangers (44-27) won a series for the first time since taking two out of three from the St. Louis Cardinals on June 5-7. Since, the Rangers dropped series to the Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Angels.
The Rangers were down 6-0 early before catching fire on the offensive end.
Texas went off after the Blue Jays (39-34) battered Rangers starter Jon Gray, chasing the right-hander with one out in the third.
The Rangers took the lead with a three-run fifth to go up 8-5. Leody Taveras drove in the go-ahead run with a single and Texas never trailed after that.
Taveras had a big game, hitting a home run later in the contest and going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored out of the No. 9 spot.
Ezequiel Duran, who batted No. 8, went 4-for-5 and scored three runs.
Corey Seager also had four hits and drove in three runs. Jonah Heim's solo home run tied the game and it was his only hit of the game.
The Rangers bullpen came to Gray's rescue, who was making his first start in 11 days due to a blister issue.
John King (1-0) threw 3 1/3 innings of hitless relief, but still gave up a run. Grant Anderson Jose Leclerc and Joe Barlow closed out the win.
Chris Bassitt (7-6) started for the Blue Jays and left after throwing just 3 2/3 innings. He gave up five runs, but only three were earned. Nate Pearson (4-1) took the loss in relief.
The Rangers start a six-game seven-day road trip Monday at 7:10 p.m. at the Chicago White Sox. The Rangers are expected to start Andrew Heaney (4-4, 4.05). The White Sox have not announced their probable starter.
